Dream Tournament 1st round

#1. St Ignatius (14-0) vs.#8. Cabrini (0-14)

This one should be a no brainer, but not so fast. Lets not forget in 8th grade what Gerry Schafer pulled out of his hat. Ignatius will start this game out slow, and Cabrini will take a early 8-0, and they will start to hold the ball. At Half this game will be 14-10 Cardinals. Do you believe in Miracles? The Conwell Egan student section is going nuts, Ignatius cant believe whats happening. With 2 minutes remaining its 16-15 Cabrini still with the lead and still holding the ball for minutes at a time. Bill Taylor is running a clinic out there for the cardinals on how to hold the ball Schafer is out muscling Crozier and Marscowski on the boards. 30 seconds Ignatius takes its first lead at 18-16. Gerry Schaf takes a timeout. He draws up a play for last shot and for the win, the crowd is on there feet, the ball goes into Kevins hands, right away they double him. The double team leaves a wide open John Chapman, Kevin hits John with the pass, 5 seconds Johns open for a 3, He fires. As the ball goes through the air it goes silent in a packed St Ignatius gymnasium. Its GOOD. Cabrini goes up 2 with just 1.8 seconds remaining. Ignatius takes a timeout and are in total disbelieve. The crowd is going nuts. In the lowest scoring high school game in region 19 history. its 19-18 Cabrini lead and what looks to be the biggest upset of all time. Ignatius has one last prayer. Crozier is the inbounder he throws a bomb the length of the court, its a jump ball......Gallagher gives Kevin Schafer a veteran bump as they go up, Gallagher catches it and lays it in as time expires. Everyone in the gym waits for the call. No wistle comes and the buzzer goes off, the score board reads 20-19 St Ignatius escapes. As Gerry Schafer, Dave Schafer, and Dennis Schafer all go right after the ref for the non call, they have to be taken out of the gym by Yardley state troopers. This one was a game for the ages, Ignatius pulls it out, as cabrini lays on the court in disbelieve. Final St Ignatius 20 Cabrini 19

#4. St Marks (10-4) vs #5. St Mikes (7-7)

Bristol vs Fairless Hills in this one, a rivalary game to say the least. Battle of the big men. Joe Snydman vs Brendan Foley. This one will go back and fourth. Alex Cherry and Mike Pineli may be the best back court in this tournament. As at half the score board reads St Marks 34 St Mikes 26 as Matt Kane and Jay Niatas keep St Mikes in it. But in the 2nd half its just to much Joe Snydman. Brendan Foley catches fire late in the 2nd half but its just to late, as a Justin Bainbridge and one proves to be the dagger as St Marks pulls it 52-47. Final St Marks 52 St Mikes 47

#2. Our Lady Of Grace (11-3) vs #7. St. Thomas (2-12)

A rematch from the 06-07 title game. But this time the titans will be without Jim Domzalski as he went back to St Charles. This loss will prove to be costly. Grace wants to prove they are one of the better teams in cyo region 19 history. But St Thomas gives them all they can handle as Tom Kovack and Tom McCue start hitting from long range, but foul trouble will kill the titans as they are forced to play subs and with nolte and domzalski gone coach Kuebler has no where to go. The gators take advantage as they pull away down the stretch. Final Grace 55 Thomas 45

#3. St Andrews (11-3) vs. #6. St Charles (6-8)

This by far was the most hyped up game of the 1st round. As this game is sold out another first in cyo region 19 history, the battle of conwell egan vs holy ghost, pretty much every cyo team is in the stands rooting for Charles, Andrews and Coach Madison dont seem to mind. The First half is all Knights as Charles behind the strong play of Jim Domzalski and Steve Carroll hold a 41-31 lead. Charles Coach Drew Carroll goes to a triangle and 2 defense with domzalski on Deluca and Brian Handratty on Wozinack. The crowd starts to get in the heads of St Andrews. But Charles hits a cold streak in the 2nd half and not even the student section can help them as Deulca gets hot from 3, and with 2 minutes remaining in the game. St Andrews takes a 59-58 lead. The game goes back and fourth for the next minute and with 5 seconds remaining St Andrews has the ball in a tie game at 63-63. A jam packed St Andrews gymnasium in on there feet. Coach Madison takes a final 20 second timeout. Lets go back to 2005-2006 season in the same gym St Charles losses in the playoffs on a buzzer beater, after a amazing game. That lose pushes Jim Domzalski to St Thomas for his senior season. Would the same thing happen just a year later in the same gym? Its another long ride home for Drew and Steve Caroll as Nick Deluca drills a nba 3 at the buzzer with a hand in his face. FInal St Andrews 66 St Charles 63

2nd round

#1. St Ignatius vs #4. St Marks

Yardley vs Bristol in this one. St Marks has the edge in the back court with guards Mike Pinelli and Alex Cherry, but Ignatius holds a huge edge in size. In the first half St Marks goes into a 2-3 zone and is forcing St Ignatius to hit jump shots, which if there is a weakness on this team that is it. Joe Snydman and Justin Bainbridge who are both 6 foot tall are dominating Ignatius on the Boards with there strength, they are pushing around Matt Croshere and kevin Gallagher like rag dolls. As at half St Marks is up 34-27, and are only one half away from one of the biggest upsets in Cyo history. In the second half Joe Snydman and Dave Marscowski both recieve Technical fouls, Crusader Nation is not happy with call, but Gerry Schafer ( Cabrini Coach) is the ref for this second round game after Ignatius knocked out his team in the 1st round, how that was arranged is still unknow. With 5 minutes remain St Marks is holding on for dear life as they hold a 51-48 lead. It is back and fourth from then on and with 13 seconds remaining St Marks is up two 59-57. But St Marks Star and bigman Joe Snydman has fouled out. St Ignatius coach Bill Scott takes a timeout as he see's his perfect season and dream season slipping away. The question is where will Ignatius go for the game tying shot or game winning shot, they have so many options. Ray Ohara gets the inbounds pass and right away dumps it into the post and Kevin Gallagher takes 1 step and turns and throws it down with 2 hands, as Ignatius's Crusader Nation goes wild. Marks with 6 seconds remaining right away throw the ball in and rush down court, they elected not to take the time out, as the game is tied 59-59. As bodys are flying all over the place St Marks needs to win the game here, in overtime without Joe Snydman they would be in huge trouble, with 2 seconds Alex Cherry ducks his head and throws up a prayer which is swated into the 3rd row by Gallagher. But yet a whistle blows and there seems to be a foul called. But no way it could be a shooting foul. Gerry Schafer called a reach in foul with 0.3 seconds remaining on Ignatius guard Ray Ohara, which puts Ignatius in the penalty and sends Alex Cherry to the line for a 1 and 1 to possibly give St Marks a trip to the championship. Ignatius still can not believe the call as fans begin to throw there rally towels onto the court, note rally towels were given to the first 300 fans into the game. Finally the refs get the crowd and the game under control and Cherry heads to the line for the biggest foul shot in his basketball career. As the ball leaves his hands the gymnasium goes silent......nothing but net as the lions go up 60-59 with only 0.3 remaining, the question now is should Alex miss the 2nd one on purpose and let time run out, lets not forget a day earlier in the first round St Ignatius was down by 1 to Cabrini with barley any time left and throw the ball the length of the court and scored on a miracle. Cherry lines up for the 2nd and just throws it up trying to miss on purpose but it banks in, Ignatius calls there final time out, down 61-59 with 0.3 remaining. The Question is can they do it again. St Marks fans ready to storm the court, Ignatius breaks the huddle for what could be the final 0.3 seconds of there Cyo and Basketball Careers. Ray Ohara is the in bounder and he throws a lime duck that barely makes it across half court, Gallagher catches it and fires a deep NBA three with several St Marks defenders in his face. It's GOOD, total mayhem as it looks like Ignatius has had another miracle on the hardwood, as Ignatius bench and fans storm the court, everyone stops as a whistle blows. Ref Gerry Schafer coming from the Cyo Monitor to check to see if time expired, shouts out Basket No Good. St Marks Win......The Lions have pulled the miracle upset and now are on to the title game, Ignatius players are left in disbelieve, the basket appeared to look good on the monitor, as it did from the stands. But before anybody had a chance to ask Ref Mr. Schafer about it, he was on his way back to Fairless Hills.
Final St Marks 61 St Ignatius 59

#2. Our Lady of Grace vs #3. St Andrews

The 2005-2006 Cyo High School Champs vs the 2006-2007 Cyo High School Champs in this one.Very evenly matched game. Game goes back and fourth throughout. At half time Grace holds a slim lead at 33-30. In the 2nd half St Andrews lets the crowd in there head as pretty much all of Conwell Egan is cheering aganist them, but Holy Ghost Star Nick Deluca (Deluca Homes) keeps St Andrews in it drilling 3 after 3 and letting the fans know it after each shot pointing at them. With 1 minute remaining it is a tie game at 50. But Grace Shooting Guard Tom Monagle wants revenge from his 8th grade cyo grade school playoff lose to St Andrews and he gets it. Grace pulls away down the stretch and wins 56-50, The Conwell Egan Student Section and Graces 3 point shooting just seems to be too much for the boys from Newtown.
Final Grace 56 St Andrews 50
