Round 1
#10. St Bedes 50
#7. St Ignatius Red 36
For the second straight year the number 10 seed upsets the number 7 seed. Ignatius Red had trouble the whole
game finding ways to put points up onto the score board. St Bedes who came into the game at 7-7 showed they are better then
a 500 team.. St Bedes will now take on the other Ignatius team, this time it will be Ignatius White a team who comes in at
13-1, this will be a tough task for Bedes to do in back to back days.
#6. St Mikes Green 63
#11. St Johns 35
This game got off to a slow start. It was 21-17 at half with Mikes on top. But in the 2nd Half behind a
home crowd St Mikes caught fire, led by forward Bobby Marozzi who was all over the court. Mikes outscored Johns in the 2nd
Half 42-18. Mikes will now take on the number 3 seed in Our Lady Of Grace White. Mikes will again have home court, this should
be the best 2nd round game.
#12. St Thomas Gold 33
#5. St Ephrems 30
This game was a bracket buster. I dont think anyone gave the Thomas juniors a chance to win this game. But they
shocked cyo nation knocking out the Bensalem Power House in St Ephrems. If your a fan of offense you wouldnt of liked this
game. Very low scoring. With 12 seconds left in a tie game St Thomas had the ball, and the fans started chanting 4 3 2 1 like
time was expiring but there was really 12 seconds left and the a kid on St Thomas(no one knows his name) throws up a
3 and it goes in, then ephrems missed a 3 at the buzzer to tie it. Thomas pulled the upset but now has the task of facing
their senior team in St Thomas Blue, that game could get ugly.
#8. St Andrews White 57
#9. Holy Trinity 42
St Andrews had control of this game the whole time. They showed why they are the defending champs and handled
the 8-6 Holy Trinity Squad. St Andrews will now look to upset the the #1 St Marks Blue team who is 14-0. This game should
be a classic. Two Big time teams facing off.
2nd Round
#2. St ignatius White 50
#10. St Bedes 38
For three and a half quarters this game was a dog fight. St Ignatius could just not put the dagger in St Bedes.
Bedes Coach John Patterson just refused to let his team quit, with 3 minutes to go they cut the lead to 3 but could just never
tie it up, and in the last minute Ignatius was able to get a few easy baskets to make the game look like a easy win, but it
was far from it. Ignatius was without star guard Luke Fischer, and was still able to put it out. Chris Davies and Nick Brown
lead Ignatius to this victory and will now head to the Final Four.
#3. Grace White 66
#6. St. Mikes Green 36
I dont think anyone thought this outcome was going to take place. Grace who lost there last game of the season
in which they were missing 2 starters came into this game with a chip on there shoulder and boy were they focused. They came
into a hostile enviorment on the road in a game in which they were the better seed and didnt let any of it get to them, right
from tip they took control. Nothing seem to work for St Mikes, and to top it off in the 4th quarter St Mikes alumni and die
hard fan Rich Dupell was ejected from the game due to his comments towards a offical in the game and the fact he kept playing
the boom box during the game. It was a tough way for the St Mikes to end their season and to close up the Shire( their gym)
till next season.
#4. St Thomas Blue 48 (seniors)
#12. St Thomas Gold 42 (juniors)
With Thomas Juniors already pulling the biggst upset the day before on a 3 pointer vs St. Ephrems, they looked
to pull another one out of there hat. With the start of the 4th quarter beginning i thought to myself this couldnt happen.
And i was right Thomas Seniors were just to tough and detrmined to let this one slip away. Behind strong put backs by Dre
Durkits and Jim Domzlaski and key free throws by Jamie Fierra the Titans moved on to face The St. Mark Lions next Saturday at
Andrews. Thomas Seniors proved that they can make the crucial plays during crunch time.
#1. St Marks Blue 56
#8. St Andrews White 46
Coach Madison and St Andrews gave the undeafted St Marks team everything they could handle in this one,
as they took a 5 point lead into the 4th quarter. But St Marks just refused to go home early as they took over down the stretch
and took a 15-0 record back to Bristol. The Defending Champs gave it everything they had but it just wasnt enough. Last years
Playoff MVP Nick Deluca was in the stands to cheer on his old team but all he could do is watch as there Dynasty came to a
end. St Marks will no face their biggest test of the season as they take on St Thomas Blue saturday in the Final Four, this
one should be interesting, these two teams have been dying to play each other all season and now will get the chance on the
biggest stage at St. Andrews Saturday Night.
Final Four
Grace White 44
St. Ignatius White 28
This was a revenge game for the gators from Our Lady Of Grace, last year this same Ignatius team knocked
them out of the playoffs in their own gym. They made sure that this year it didnt happen again. Igantius Star Luke Fischer
was held in check the whole game only scoring 2 points. Ignatius just could not figure out a way to score on Grace's 1-3-1
pressure defense. On the other Side Grace didnt put up as many points as they usually do but on defense they put on a clinic out
there. Grace has looked like a team on a misson all playoffs, in their 2 games they have outscored their opponents 100-64.
They will look to stay on this path as they head to the championship.
St. Thomas Blue 49
St. Marks Blue 42
For 3 and a half quarters this game was all St. Marks as they held a 7 point lead with 4 minutes
remaining. But Thomas Coach Dave Kuebler rallied the troops and Thomas went on a tear to end the game and sent the lions of
St Marks home with their only lose of the year. St Marks Star Joe Snydman was held to just 2 points, as he got in early foul
trouble and could just never get a feel for the game. St Thomas was lead by star Jim Domzalski, who in the 4th quarter hit
some big shots to get thomas back in the game. The game was then iced when Thomas point guard Tom Kovack drilled a 3 to put
Thomas up 4, then at the foul line when 6th man Tom McCue drilled 2 foul shots to clinch it. In a losing effort unlikely hero
Justin Bainbridge stepped up with Joe Snydman in foul trouble and controlled the glass and added 8 points. It was a tough
way for St Marks to end their season as they finish at 15-1, Joe Snydman and Alex Cherry had great seasons and have nothing
to be ashamed of. The Question is where will St Marks go from here?
Championship
Grace White 67
St Thomas Blue 53
This game was closer then what the final scored showed. Grace started off this game on fire going
on a 10-0 just 2 minutes in. It looked like they were going to walk away champs fairly easy, but the titans didnt quit. Behind
Tom Kovack and Jim Domzalski the Titans roared back. Going into the locker rooms at half it was a 4 point game at 27-23 Grace.
St Thomas needed to find a way to slow down the offense of the Gators which no team has been able to do the whole playoffs.
But Grace was just a little bit to much for the titans on this night, St Thomas tried just about every defense in the book
but nothing seemed to slow down Grace. Grace was led by Mike Rongione and Tom Monagle. Joe Obrien and Spencer Quinn also made
big plays down the stretch for the Gators. St Thomas was able to cut the lead to 5 with about three minutes remaining but
could just never get any closer then that. In Grace's three playoff games they were never losing in the game at any point. You
could tell this team was on a misson when it seemed like they were in trouble when they found out that they were playing St
Mikes in the 2nd Round at St Mikes of all places when Grace had the better seed. They went into that hostile enviroment as
a underdog to some and won 66-36, and then kept the ball rolling beating the 14-1 St Ignatius White team from Yardley. The
same exact team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year, beating them 44-28. Grace showed they were the best overall
team. They were lead by a great coach in Joe Kelly. They were able to end their careers with a title, a long awaiting
championship for alot of the players like Tom Monagle, Mike Rongione, Joe Obrien, Spencer Quinn, James Staley and Jim Love
who had been trying for that cyo championship since early grade school and were finally able to get it in their Senior season.
